In a dramatic ending the Dominican Republicans staged a comeback and held on
to win over the Santa Fe Trailer Bitches by the count of 9 to 7.
Dominican won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning when they
scored 6 runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Xavier Nady who helped quiet
the crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 5th of the season).
Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Santa Fe could not get the win.
Kiko Calero(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Dustin Hermanson gained credit for his 3rd save. Jason Isringhausen(1-1) was
hit with the loss in relief.
After the game, it took a long while before Dennis Martin emerged from his
office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this
afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a
lot more light-hearted over in the Dominican locker room.'
